Personal Narrative

Being a journalist for four years has helped me a lot with my voice being shown in my work. When I first started, I was extremely shy, and while I was great with writing several pages of work in school, I struggled to show how that reflected my personality. I had good questions, but I never showed that until I began going out and actually interacting with people in interviews; it was the best decision I could have made.

After interviewing several people for my podcast and even for my photos while in my photojournalism class, I’ve come out of my shell a bit more, and it has made my work look stronger in comparison to using sources like I used to. On top of my lack of confidence for interviews, I had also gotten used to taking subpar photos. I haven’t mastered it completely, but I’ve improved and learned how to tell a story with just an image.

While my interest in this field of work has grown, I began to put more focus on the amount of effort I put into it, which can be seen in my more recent work. I wouldn’t be as strong a writer and a person as a whole without taking this path in my life. I am planning to work in more different media, such as digital art and storyboarding; however, that doesn’t mean that my skills will be useless in that endeavor. I plan to use it to confidently showcase my improvements and accurately plan how my artwork will be displayed.
